GCSE Results

“Mind-blowingly good” grades applauded at St Joseph’s Catholic High School.

Students at St Joseph’s Catholic High School, Slough, have blown their teachers away after securing impressive results that would ordinarily stand amongst the best in the country for the progress that students make.

Students achieved, on average, nearly three quarters of a grade in every single exam sat more than they were predicted to make at the start of Year 7 – with two thirds achieving 5 GCSEs including English and Maths.

Mr Stapleton, Headteacher, said: “These results are fantastic! Our students worked tirelessly, and the grades they have achieved are mind-blowingly good.

In many ways this is a slightly unusual year for us. In an area where there are quite a few selective schools, the figures that matter most to us are the ones that show the progress that students make during their time with us.

While this isn’t something that the Government can officially report on this year, as these students didn’t do their SATs because of Covid, all our metrics show that these students achieved well above anything they would have been predicted five years ago.

In fact, is any other year, on progress alone, our results would likely have stood alongside the best in England.”

Amongst those celebrating was:

  • Sydelle Vaz              6 x Grade 9, 4 x Grade 8
  • Luca May                 4 x Grade 9, 3 x Grade 8, 1 x Grade 7 and 2 x Grade 6
  • Nathan James         5 x Grade 9, 3 x Grade 8, 2 x Grade 7 and 1 x Grade 6
  • Jessica Roff             3 x Grade 9, 4 x Grade 8
  • Sara Piasecka         3 x Grade 9, 3 x Grade 8, 3 x Grade 7, and 1 x Grade 6
  • Jerusha Gill             2 x Grade 9, 4 x Grade 8, 3 x Grade 7 and 1 x Grade 6
  • Vince Lacsamana    1 x 9, 6 x Grade 8 and 3 x Grade 7
  • Ace Kozluk              2 x Grade 9, 2 x Grade 8, 2 x Grade 7 and 2 x Grade 6

The school, which is part of the St Thomas Catholic Academies Trust, also secured record A Level results last week – with nearly 20% of all exams sat securing an A* or A.

Mr Stapleton added: “Proud does not even begin to start to describe how we all feel. Our students, parents/carers and staff have come together to help us secure and celebrate a milestone set of results.”

Mr Stapleton, Headteacher, said: “I am speechless! There are no words to describe this group of students.

Academically they have performed brilliantly. Not only have they achieved fantastic results, they are also leaving us as young people that we should all be proud of.

We are delighted that a record number of students will be heading off to some of the country’s leading universities to study medicine. These young people want to leave us and go and make a positive difference to the world that awaits them.
