Learning Resource Centre

Our new and improved Learning Resource Centre is a wonderful and safe environment for both staff and students to study; research new information; and appreciate the wonderful world of literature. The new LRC opened its doors in February of 2019 and is now equipped with more tools and equipment to support our students in their academics. We are very excited to see what the 2019 – 2020 academic year has to bring!

The LRC:

  • Provides resources to support students’ studies
  • Develops students’ independent learning skills
  • Promotes reading for pleasure
  • Provides careers resources
  • Provides study space and ICT facilities

Opening Times:

Opened daily from 8:00am – 4:00pm. Laptops and printing facilities are available in the LRC during these time. Students can access the e-praise shop during break and lunch times.

E-praise Shop:

The e-praise shop is opened during break and lunch times.

Homework Club:

Homework Club runs from Monday – Friday before school from 8:00am – 8:30am and afterschool from 3:00pm – 4:00pm. Pupils who wish to stay later are permitted if there is a member of staff present.

About the Learning Resource Centre:

The LRC is accessible to all students throughout the day and is managed by the LRC Manager. During lesson times Sixth Form students who have free periods are permitted to revise in the LRC and utilise its resources.

Library sessions take place for Year 7 and 8 students throughout the academic year. This is an opportunity for these younger students to understand how to take texts out from the library and support them in their appreciation of reading. Students are encouraged to make use of the healthy stock that the LRC has to offer. Three mornings a week during tutor time our Literacy Leaders meet with their mentees and participate in our paired reading scheme to help nurture a passion for reading in our Year 7 and 8 students.

We have been working hard to put together age appropriate reading lists for the various subject throughout the school. This is an opportunity for all of our students to delve deeper into some of their favourite subjects. Students are encouraged to make book requests and we will endeavour to order those texts that are in high demand.

The LRC also plays host to our Careers meetings which allows for our Key Stage 4 students to begin to map out their next steps after their GCSEs and A-levels.

Upcoming Events:

Year 7 Library Sessions:

The Year 7 Library sessions are set to commence Monday, 30th September 2019. This is an opportunity for our new Year 7s to understand how to properly utilise the LRC and all of the resources that it has to offer. The visits will last around thirty minutes and the students are encouraged to leave with a book that they have chosen.

Chris Bradford Visit:

We are very excited to announce that Chris Bradford, author of ‘Bodyguard’ and ‘Young Samurai’ will be coming to speak to our Year 7 and Year 8 students on Tuesday, 19th November 2019. Chris Bradford is a popular children’s author and we are lucky to have secured his visit. We are very much looking forward to welcoming him.
