10th November 2022 - Y8 Football St Joseph's vs Trevelyan

A Year 8 squad down to the barebones of their team hosed Trevelyan of Windsor in what would be an extremely competitive game.

St Joseph's played the majority of the football passing the ball around well in the midfield but often the attack would fizzle out with out a final product. Andreus took it upon himself to have a long range effort and test the keeper. This effort managed to sneak its way into the far right hand side of the goal 1-0.

The Trevelyan defense held up well, refusing access into their box. This lead Fabian to have a long rage effort and again find the corner of the goal 2-0.

After a push back from the Trevelyan  team the half finished 2-2.

The 2nd half was a tight contest, with the majority of the football being played in the middle of the park. Jean-Marie made some crucial covering tackles to keep the Trevelyan out of striking distance. As the pressure mounted Kingsley kept the ball out of the St Joseph’s net.

Late on in the second half Olivier found the ball in some space and struck it towards goal. The ball flew past the keeper and into the net. This put St Josephs ahead 3-2.

The final minutes played out with some strong attacks from both teams but neither able to find the end product.

FT 3-2 St Joseph’s

Goal scorers: Andreus, Fabian and Olivier

MOM: Fabian

Next game: Wednesday 1st March @ Langley Grammar

10th November 2022 - Y10 Badminton St Joseph's vs Cox Green School

The Year 10 badminton team travel to Cox Green School in Maidenhead for an afternoon packed tight games.

The St Joseph’s team showed good pedigree in the first round as the majority of the St Joseph’s team winning.

With a doubles and singles format all accumulated into an overall team there was plenty to fight for.

The girls team made up of Paige, Itohan, AJ and Elisa finished the afternoon in 3rd place overall picking up a bronze medal for their efforts. A fantastic effort and result considering the stiff competition.

The boys team made up of Joel, Perase and Jaydon narrowly missed out on a podium position finishing in 4th overall another outstanding achievement considering the quality opposition they faced.

20th October 2022 - Y8 Football St Joseph's vs Beechwood

With great pressure and early shots on target, St Joseph’s seemed to take the upper hand in the opening encounters. Beechwood defense finally cracked when Kosi managed to get down the wing and zip a ball across goal, tapped in by Alex to open the scoring 1-0 St Joseph's.

Almost straight away Beechwood attacked and equalized. 1-1

The first half showed great determination and grit by all players involved, goal scoring opportunities made by both teams, Kingsley making key saves to keep St Joseph’s level going into the half.

In the second half followed much of the first, a stalemate, the two teams nullifying each other’s attacking threats.

The game finished 1-1.

MOM – Kingsley

Next game Tuesday 8th Nov v Trevelyan – Home

20th October 2022 - Y9 Football St Joseph's vs Beechwood

A flat start to the Year 9s second game this year. A miscommunication at the back left Kye steering the ball past his own goalkeeper, Gabi, into his own net. 1-0 Beechwood.

Beechwood applied pressure to the St Joseph’s team but they didn’t crack. Great defensive efforts from David. Finally a fantastic fingertip save by Gabi, deflected the ball out to an oncoming Beechwood attacker and he placed it home into the net to put Beechwood up 2-0.

Gabi Spotted an opportunity to put a long ball in over the defense and let Jovan run onto it, Jovan gathers the ball in behind the defense and slides it around the keeper to make it 2-1 going into the half, giving St Joseph’s a fighting chance in the second.

Early on in the second half, Albi threads the needle though the defense to get Jovan in behind with just the goalkeeper to beat, he does this with ease to bring St Joseph’s level with the majority of the 2nd half to play.

After a long stalemate, both teams playing extremely physical form of football more similar to rugby. Beechwood managed to get the ball into the St Joseph’s box, it pinballed around before a Beechwood player managed to steer it towards to goal and into the back of the net. 3-2 Beechwood.

With each team giving all in each challenge, trying to win the ball back for their team. It was the final moments of the 2nd half, St Joseph’s had been awarded a corner. All players crammed into the box. The ball flashed across the face of the goal begging to be put into the back of the net but no St Joseph’s player managed to find that final touch.

The game finished 3-2 Beechwood, a fantastic fight, showing great determination and resilience when things didn’t go our way.

MOM – Jovan

The Year 8 girls' football team started their season with a 7-0 win against Baylis! St Joseph’s seemed unstoppable with Nadia Yara and Celine up front and in midfield; with Nadia scoring 6 and Yara scoring 1.  Isla, Luciana and Natalia with a strong defensive line acting like a brick wall and not let anything/anyone past them! 11th October 2022 - Y9 Football St Joseph's vs Langley Grammar School

The Year 9 football team opened their footballing fixture list with a trip away to Langley Grammar School.

A well fought first 10 minutes with opportunities going both ways but no one managed break the deadlock. Loris and Emanuel caused problems for the grammar schools defence, getting in behind the at their own will. Finally, the first goal came with a great strike by Lorris with an equal save but fortunately falling at the feet of Zac in the 6-year box. He then tucked it away to open the score sheet. With the majority of the opportunities going the way of St Joseph’s. With the rare occasion Langley Grammar School broke behind it was comfortably snuffed out by the Jordan Pickford style goalkeeping by Gabi.

The second goal came by the centre back Mikolaj driving forward and winning 50/50 battles and poking the ball in behind with perfect weight for Albi to pick it up and calmy ease it past the keeper 2-0.

Quickly after St Joseph’s 2nd goal the Grammar school made a quick reply, a slight blunder and lack of communication between Gabi and the two center backs, Marcus and Mikolaj the Langley grammar school attacker managed to snake a goal in. 2-1

The second half followed a similar path as the first, with all the football being played by Manchester City, I mean St Joseph’s. Jovan found space running at defenders, leaving them in his wake. He fired a long-range speculative effort form 30 yards, with the keeper scrambling it ricocheted of the cross bar and into the lap of Emmanuel who drove it home for his well-deserved goal. Captain Kye took control in the last 5 minutes calming his team down and getting to the final whistle 3-1. St Joseph’s. Man of the Match – Emanuel Ofori & Albi Galloway.

10th October 2022 - Y8 Football - St Josephs's vs Dedworth

The Y8 football team opened their campaign at home against Dedworth.

A battle that was even through the game, but St Joseph’s took an early lead with a great effort from Kosi placing the ball in the back of the net to put St Joseph’s 1-0 early. This goal set the tone of the goal festival that laid awaiting. Kasper showed great footballing control and skills delivered the next blow to the score board putting St Joseph’s up 2-0 early on in the first half.  After a tough final period to the first half and conceding far too many goals. The half-finished 4-2 to Dedworth School. The second half started with St Joseph’s looking sharp. Playing all of the football in the middle of the park. This resulted in Alex getting in a scoring the first goal of the 2nd half 4-3.

After great attacking pressure, Dedworth seemed to bend, giving away a penalty and an opportunity to draw things level. The captain, Jean-Marie steps up and slots away the ball in the back of the net. 4-4 A similar story to the last goal, the pressure had been building and something give. Again another penalty and an opportunity to get the lead back. Jean-Marie steps up again to take the penalty and just like last time he tucks the ball away in a well-executed penalty. 5-4 to St Joseph’s. After a tense final 5 minutes with great defensive efforts the game finished 5-4 and St Joseph’s take the win. Man of the Match – Jean-Marie Tiero

Goals - Jean-Marie Tiero x2, Kosi Anyadiegwu, Alex Baptista, Kasper Gazda

Next Game - Tuesday 18th October @ Beechwood.

“The year 11 team travelled to Langley Academy for their second instalment of the league title defence.

6th October 2022 - Y11 Football - St Josephs's vs Langley Academy

After a nervous start, Simone threaded the needle through the defence, with a spectacular ball to put Ryleigh through one on one with their goalkeeper. He slides it past the goalkeeper with ease 1-0.

With St Joseph’s playing the majority of the football, but often unable to find the end product. The Langley academy team found them self in a strong position against the run of play. A shot form outside of the area that took a deflection snuck its way past Alex and found its way into the back of the net for an against the run of play equaliser 1-1.

Halfway through the second half Eryk picks up the ball 10 yards outside of the box and curls his shot around the goalkeeper for a potential goal of the season effort. 2-1.

St Joseph’s dominance showing in late into the second half, with the midfield creating all the chances and shutting out any threats Langley Academy had. Building play down the right wing, a ball crossed in, pin balling around the 6-yard box and St Joseph’s sneaking a toe onto it and directing it into the back of the net. 3-1

Man of the Match – Szymon Hoszowski

Next Game - Thursday 13th October at Westgate

29th September 2022 - Y11 Football - St Josephs's vs Ditton Park Academy

The year 11 football team started their season on Thursday afternoon after a successful campaign last season, what saw them winning the league. To start off their title defence they faced Ditton Park Academy who posed a strong side.

After a cagey first half ending at 0-0 with chances created by both teams, it was down to the battle of the midfield.

Ditton Park Academy came out fighting in the second half scoring first, this was closely followed by a drive down the right-hand wing by Ryleigh and a cross into Xavier to level the scores. With great determination showed by Eryk and Wisdom putting in strong tackles in the midfield and defence. Ditton managed to score again and taking the lead, 2-1.

Xavier got in behind the defensive line, attacked the ball getting to it just before the goalkeeper and edging it past him to draw St Joseph’s level for a second time, 2-2.

With around 1 minute to go, a long through ball was hit in the direction of Xavier, who was on his hat-trick, he controls the ball behind the defensive line and tucks the ball away for what seemed to be a certain winner for St joseph’s, unfortunately during the frantic celebrations the linesman was adamantly waiving his flag for offside, and the goal was disallowed.

The game finished 2-2, a solid start to the season desperately close to an opening victory, the Y11s return to the pitch next Thursday away Langley Academy.

Man of the Match – Xavier Kopec

Next Game - 6th October at Langley Academy
